This is the first of what I hope will be several books about my experiences in life and those of people I have met along the way.
I was born and raised in the great Miramichi Valley of New Brunswick. The river, of the same name, runs through it and provides a backdrop for my childhood and young adult experiences. The river also plays an outsized role in my stories as I spent hundreds of hours rowing on it, exploring its beauty.
At a young age, I determined I was gay. This was in the sixties when it was best left unsaid. The residents of my small village were good people but intolerant of differences.
I spent my developmental years struggling to understand who I was and where I fit. "Stories From the River" captures these times not in a bitter or resentful fashion. Those times were filled with tremendous growth as I learned from many people.
Some of the stories are funny and poignant and others are dramatic. The common factor is they are true.
"Stories From the River" is available on Amazon.ca in digital and softcover format.
